Why 'Where' Matters But 'Who' Matters More
Welcome To The Spatial Circle ππ
Welcome to The Spatial Circle. A home for anyone who is curious about collecting, analysing and visualising geospatial data. You can expect weekly articles, interviews, and job openings from across the industry.
In this first post I want to explain why I have started The Spatial Circle.
Where Matters.
As a society we face multiple unprecedented challenges, from climate change to inequality. Many of these challenges revolve around where.
Where should we plant a forest?
Where is going to flood the next time it rains?
Where should we build a new hospital?
The geospatial community is uniquely positioned to answer these questions.
However, with such power comes responsibility. We owe it to the world to have the best data, undertake the best analyses, and produce the most compelling visualisations.
But the best work is never carried out alone.
Who Matters More.
We need the best and brightest minds to come together. Because when we work together we are greater than the sum of our parts.
When we share ideas and challenge one another, we drive the whole enterprise forward and give ourselves the best chance of solving the issues of the day.
The question therefore is not where but who.
Who will share their ideas?
Who will help others to succeed?
Who will allow others to help them?
My hope is that The Spatial Circle will help answer the βwhoβ by bringing people together from across the geospatial industry. People like you. I hope you will join me.
